Rainwater harvesting kits clamoured over by customers

A drainage industry leader confirmed that sales of rainwater harvesting kits have soared 40 per cent compared to the same time last year. Changing weather patterns, the ongoing threat of water shortages and a growing consumer interest in the green agenda are thought to be causing the rise, according to Drain Center, leading national suppliers of drainage products to the professional construction market.

With more water shortages predicted in the months ahead, Drain Center experts expect the rainwater harvesting trend to grow.“We’ve seen a considerable surge in interest in our rainwater harvesting kits, it’s a very sensible thing to be doing,” said Drain Center Trading Director Dave Young. “The good news is that installing one in your home is simple and if you’re on a water meter you’ll also save money on water bills. Following almost two years of below average rainfall, areas in the UK which are served by Anglian Water, South East Water, Southern Water, Sutton and East Surrey Water, Thames Water, Veolia Water Southeast and Veolia Water Central are now officially in a period of drought. The government’s future water strategy aims to cut water consumption from 150 litres per day per person to 130 litres per day by 2030.
