ISG Takes £7.8 Million Contracts At West Suffolk College


ISG has been awarded two projects at West Suffolk College in Bury St Edmunds, with a combined value of £7.8 million. The most high profile of these awards is the brief to create a stunning new £7 million teaching block at the entrance to the main Out Risbygate campus site.

Both schemes form part of the college’s overall masterplan to further enhance teaching facilities across its two main sites in Bury St Edmunds. Creating a purpose-built hub for the college, the new three-storey concrete framed teaching block is set to provide 3,600 sq m of accommodation, with high specification classrooms, tutorial facilities, student support and recreational areas.

Designed to reflect the architectural style of surrounding buildings on the campus, the new Further Education block will showcase the college’s sustainable ambitions and incorporates high performance building materials and a biomass boiler. Featuring a large atrium to maximise the volume of natural light entering the building, the structure also makes extensive use of curtain walling to its façade to reduce the requirement for artificial lighting.

Externally, ISG will carry out extensive landscaping, creating a sustainable urban drainage system to regulate the volume of surface run off entering natural watercourses. The contractor is also tasked with remodelling the existing car parking provision as part of the project.

During the ten-month new build programme, ISG will additionally deliver a programme of general refurbishment works to the college’s Higher Education facilities during an £800,000 upgrade. Operating across a live campus environment, ISG has worked closely with staff to develop a workable programme that delivers to expectations whilst minimising the potential impact of these essential works on students.

APS RECOGNIZES KONECRANES NUCLEAR EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES AS AN OUTSTANDING BUSINESS PARTNER


On May 17, 2012, Arizona Public Service (APS) recognized Konecranes Nuclear Equipment & Services, LLC along with five other suppliers, for going above and beyond what is expected as a business partner.

Konecranes was recognized in the category of Major Equipment for expertise in the design, engineering, purchasing of materials and the safe replacement of a polar crane trolley at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. The work was done on schedule and on budget despite short notice and a small time frame to complete the job.

Nominated for the award by APS employees, Konecranes was evaluated not only for its customer service, but for their support of APS’s values including: showing a commitment to sustainability; being actively involved in the community; and focusing on health, safety and environmental concerns.

Konecranes relationship with APS will continue. In May 2011, Konecranes was awarded a contract to modernize three existing 225/35 ton polar cranes at the APS, Palo Verde Nuclear Generation Station. The first crane will be installed in the fall of 2014 and the last in June 2015.

Bonal Technologies achieves excellent customer satisfaction rating


Bonal International, Inc. has announced the results of a recent blind Customer Satisfaction survey performed by an independent consulting firm on its three product lines – Meta-Lax, Pulse Puddle Arc Welding and Black Magic from customers acquiring equipment over a 16-month period.

The overall satisfaction rating in the three areas surveyed reached excellent satisfaction rating percentages. The overall rating for the equipment was 98% and sales and service was 98%. The satisfaction rating reached an outstanding level of 93% for overall results of using Meta-Lax technology.

One customer commented on their overall results, “We are seeing higher quality repairs with a faster, cheaper process that allows us to avoid moving large parts to the furnace.” Another customer summed up their experience this way, “I think they do an excellent job and cannot think of any way that our experience could have been better.”

Companies involved in the survey represented a wide range of demographics, from small machine shops to large organizations, from 10 different countries and a variety of different industries including fabricating, machining, aerospace, mining, mold making, gunsmithing, high performance racing and specialty metals producing.

EnPak Mechanic Series reduces fuel usage and engine wear


Life in the landfill is hard on equipment. The constant pushing of garbage and dirt puts a heavy strain on the hydraulics and drive train of large bulldozers. Compactors take a constant beating to prepare the trash to be covered. It’s a dirty, harsh work environment that’s tough on equipment. And it’s a job that cannot afford any downtime: if the trash isn’t covered by the end of the work day - a legal requirement - no one goes home until it is.

The same can be said about a heavy equipment service mechanic like Carlos Pineda. Pineda, the resident mechanic contracted by Peterson Tractor Company (CAT) of San Leandro, CA, spends every day servicing and repairing these machines at Waste Management’s landfill in nearby Fremont. The tools he uses – air compressors, generators, and a hydraulic crane – are typically run off of a truck’s PTO, which puts wear and tear on its diesel engine and drive train. The PTO requires the truck to constantly idle, a factor that puts a significantly higher number of hours on the truck’s engine compared to just driving it to and from the worksite.

Recognizing the need for a better solution to power equipment on a mechanic’s trucks, Miller Electric Mfg. Co. has introduced EnPak™ Mechanic Series, a completely self-contained air compressor, hydraulic pump and generator that runs off its own 27 HP diesel engine. This eliminates the need for a PTO on a mechanic’s truck and allows these tools to work without running the truck’s engine. Pineda reports that EnPak has made his truck more fuel efficient, reduced his truck’s engine hours and improved the operating environment around his truck.

“A downed machine leads to the garbage not getting pushed, compacted, or covered,” says Pineda. “In the operation of a landfill, those are three very important factors. The garbage cannot stay exposed over night. If the shift ends and the garbage isn’t covered, then Waste Management runs into overtime costs. When machines are down, it costs them money.”

For a heavy equipment mechanic like Pineda, his workshop is completely mobile. The typical mechanic’s truck includes an air compressor, a hydraulic crane, a generator and a welder, plus all the other tools required to do the job: impact wrenches, grinders, lights, a computer for diagnostics, etc. Each truck travels to and from the jobsite daily and then idles all day as the mechanic powers this equipment off the truck’s PTO. With the introduction of EnPak, Pineda has completely changed the way he uses his truck.

“What I like the most about EnPak is that my truck doesn’t run now as I work. There’s no wear-and-tear on my truck. I don’t put a bunch of hours on it just by idling and burning fuel for no reason, polluting the air. EnPak puts out a minimum amount of exhaust, a minimum amount of noise and it powers all of my components as if the truck was running.”

The primary tool of any heavy equipment mechanic is an air compressor used to run impact wrenches and the carbon arc gouging capabilities of his welder. Pineda claims that EnPak gives him more consistent air compressor performance than the old compressor he ran off the truck’s PTO.

“I like the fact that the air compressor gives me on-demand air,” says Pineda. “I can run my big heavy guns and not have to wait for the air to build back. With the old system, I could undo one or two fasteners at a time and then have to wait for the compressor to build air back up. If there are 30 bolts and I have to wait a minute to take each bolt off, that’s a half-hour wasted. EnPak produces such a volume of air that I can run my gun without stopping. It’s very productive.”

EnPak’s rotary screw air compressor is rated at 40 CFM at 100 PSI and is constantly able to produce up to 175 PSI without stopping. This has allowed Pineda to work more efficiently than with the old system. He also reports that he can effectively use EnPak’s air compressor and hydraulic pump simultaneously without any lag in power. The variable displacement hydraulic pump (Eaton) is rated at 3,000 PSI at 8.5 GPM with a maximum flow of 20 GPM.

“EnPak lets me use both air and hydraulics at the same time without slowing down,” says Pineda. “Sometimes I need to use my crane to support a piece when I’ll be using my impact gun to remove fasteners, and that all comes into play when you are disassembling a large machine.”

Another key tool for any mechanic is a generator. On many mechanic’s trucks, this is taken care of by a welding generator or a stand-alone generator. EnPak eliminates the need for either of these by producing 6,000 watts of power that can run welders and other power tools. It also offers 2,400 watts of pure sine wave EnVerter™ power (available at all engine speeds) to power items such as work lights, battery chargers and laptops used to check service codes and monitor the operating conditions of a machine.

“I use the generator mostly for running big hydraulic rams or when I need a lot of PSI to run a track press,” says Pineda. “It runs the pumps without stopping or slowing down. I use it for my drop lights, my drills. I’ve also used it to run a welder.”

Another key benefit of EnPak is a substantially-improved operator environment. Mechanics work almost entirely off the back of their truck. The loud noise of a running truck combined with the noise of running tools and the truck’s exhaust creates a nasty mix of distractions for the mechanic. Tests have shown that EnPak reduces jobsite sound levels by as much as 10 dB, and a vertical exhaust forces fumes up and away from the work environment (in addition to eliminating the truck’s exhaust).

“If you’re working around high decibels, it puts a stress level on you that should be avoided,” says Jack Ravazza, general service manager, Peterson Tractor. “I think reduced noise can have a big effect on the performance of a technician. The better environment, the more productivity he is going to have.”

“With the older setup,” says Pineda, “If you had to lie down anywhere near the equipment, you would have the muffler pointed at your face and it would be gassing you the whole time you had to work. So then you’d park your truck in a different direction away from the equipment you were working on, which is inconvenient. Now, with EnPak, the exhaust is diverted up and I don’t even smell it.”

EnPak’s integrated control design also makes life easier on Pineda by providing all of the controls he needs right at the back of the truck. “The EnPak remote panel lets me start all the functions from the back of the truck without having to go and climb into my cab, turn the PTO on, then climb back out and start working. I can just go right to the back panel, start the component and I’m ready to work.”

The remote panel also monitors, operates and provides diagnostics for engine and air compressor functions such as fuel usage and engine RPM. And Pineda didn’t have to learn any new controls as the integrated design allows him to use the crane remote he is already familiar with. “I didn’t have to learn anything new,” he says. “Within five minutes I was running EnPak and all my tools like nothing had changed.”

Euro Auctions - Used Construction Plant Global Review 2011 - 2012 - 1)


What a year 2011 was! Following the crash of the worlds construction markets, the movement of second hand plant and industrial equipment around the globe proved to be highly volatile and not without surprise. The fortunes of plant owners, plant buyers and plant sellers have changed over the last 12 months, but what is the real global story?

With limited availability of brand new equipment and machinery in 2011 the trading market for pre owned construction equipment, mining machinery, access equipment, screening and crushing plant, diggers, dumpers and dozers and all things in-between became buoyant. Extremely buoyant – to the point that many makes and ranges of low hour’s equipment under two years old began selling above the price they were when they were new – Fact!

Following three years of sales drought, in 2011 the major plant manufacturers felt that confidence was returning to the market and had begun producing stock again, but not at the volumes previously seen prior to mid 2008. In early 2011 stock levels were still low and market demand manifested in a levelling of prices across Europe and the cost of brand new equipment was 20% up on prices in June 2009. Manufacturers were capitalising on market demand with substantial price hikes. The second hand market had always been strong, but these actions revived the market for good used equipment across the globe, regardless of make, model and year with prices strengthening for late-used and nearly-new equipment, with the strongest rallying in the 12 to 24 month class. But what was the global trading platform like for used plant and industrial equipment?

At Auction
The last two years have seen the trends at auction changing. The global interest in 12 to 24 month old plant is at an all time high. Dealers unable to purchase new machines from manufacturers are scouring the auctions either for stock, or machines to meet the requirements of current clients. What sells at auction is good low hour’s stock, with anything good attracting buyers, however the shift is now expanding to older machines. With 12 to 24 month old stocks depleting, buyers are now interested in stock from 24 to 48 months old. Once the route for disposal of ex-hire equipment, hire companies are replenishing stocks from auction and also hanging on to plant for much longer that previously was the norm.

Middle East
From a global view demand in the Middle East remains high with infrastructure construction projects planned across the region, and noticeably in Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Because of the current lack of new machinery, and rising second hand prices, there seems to be a trend for Middle Eastern owners to hold on to redundant plant. With no need to sell, the stock is increasing in value and owners do not wish to drop prices. From plant auctions in the UK and Europe, the intelligence shows that plant is still being shipped to the Middle East, predominantly Dubai. Even in light of the construction slow down, access equipment and cranes (both mobile and static) are still finding their way into the region, destined for dealers in the Middle East and likely to be shipped on to end users in other countries, predominantly in the Pacific Rim region. The main interest currently from Middle Eastern buyers and contactors is for good late model, low hours Backhoes, predominantly CAT 432e’s and JCB telehandlers. CAT and Manitou are also in demand. Older model dump trucks from Volvo, that are getting a little long in the tooth, are highly sought after and CAT 740 dump trucks are always in demand.

North & Central AFrica
From mid June 2009 to late 2010, the North African market demand for plant, machinery and equipment was extremely buoyant. The increasing demand from countries in this region was reflected at auction with the trend for smaller excavators, dumpers and access equipment, soon trading up to larger machines and specialising in certain brands. Libya, Egypt, Morocco, Iraq, Lebanon and Oman were all really active. The improvement in these markets was marked and it was anticipated these countries would continue to show eventual interest in larger pieces of equipment. The 2011 unrest in the North Africa region due to the ‘Arab Spring’ saw demand for plant and machinery come to a grinding halt. However, with economies stabilising, confidence has returned to the region and buyers from Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Algeria and Morocco began trading again. West central Africa currently has a good appetite for logging and mining equipment. Predominantly Ghana and Nigeria are evident at auction and plant dealers are regular buyers. The larger European contractors are bringing equipment with them as part of the project infrastructure. Similarly, many of the project teams in the region from China are bringing less than reliable home brands, which is creating a market for more reliable USA and European makes of all equipment.

Pacific Rim
Two factors are affecting the Australian home market; the current exchange rate and the series of natural disasters that sadly hit that country. The exchange rate between the Australian Dollar and Pound Sterling is making transactions from the northern to the southern hemisphere very attractive. The cyclone and flooding in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales in early 2011 was responsible for an increased demand for plant and machinery in Australia as the clean-up operation got underway – and is still ongoing.

With the economy in the Far East (predominantly China) booming, demand for raw materials was high, with Australia supplying that demand, with the result being a need for heavy excavating, earth moving and crushing machinery. Australia is mining everything from copper to coal, from ore to shale fuel. In 2011 efforts to get as much equipment down-under as is possible was a priority. This trend is likely to dramatically increase and extend well into 2012, with Australia always looking for late year, low hours heavy earth moving and mining equipment, with Volvo, Komatsu, CAT and JCB being the preferred makes.

The sad events in Japan in 2011 were expected to put manufacturing in that country into a decline for a considerable period of time and this is still evident in early 2012. A two year void is predicted for new machinery coming onto the world market and as a result the supply by manufacturers such as Takeuchi and Komatsu are expected to set a price rise with availability being reduced. The Japanese home market will put huge demands on stocks of equipment for the rebuilding programme, the ripples of which will be felt across the global economy. The price of second-hand Japanese equipment is also expected to continue to rise around the globe and will become evident at the next Euro Auctions sale. By contrast, Hong Kong is quiet, with demand in this region slowing down, although this may be a temporary measure.

Caterpillar invests in mining shovel range and mining trucks


Caterpillar Inc. has announced a series of investments that, over the next four years, will significantly enhance the company’s position for the global mining industry. The company will produce a full range of mining shovels, ranging from a 125-ton model through an 800-ton model.

Caterpillar has selected its manufacturing facility in Aurora, Ill., for initial production of the new product range and is conducting a study of additional production sources in other parts of the world. In early 2011, Caterpillar will begin pilot production of the new 125-ton class shovel.

The first commercial shovels produced in Aurora are expected to be available later in 2011. The larger shovels are planned for commercial availability beginning in 2013 and through 2014. This range will give customers a direct match for loading Caterpillar’s mining trucks, from the 100-ton class 777F through the 400-ton class 797F. The Aurora facility also produces Caterpillar’s largest wheel loaders, which are an alternative method for loading mining trucks. “As we discuss solutions with our global mining customers, it’s clear they want a complete line of Caterpillar shovels to best match the full range of Caterpillar trucks operating at their mines,” said Chris Curfman, president of Caterpillar Global Mining.

The company is also accelerating previously announced capacity expansion plans for trucks in Decatur, Ill., with additional capacity expected to come on line beginning in 2011. The expansion in Decatur will increase truck capacity at the facility by nearly 30 percent. Decatur produces Caterpillar’s largest mining trucks, including the flagship 797F series truck, which has a maximum capacity of 400 tons.

In addition, Caterpillar plans to increase capacity for 60 and 100-ton trucks at its existing manufacturing facility near Chennai, India. The capacity expansion would more than double truck production capabilities in India. The expansion for its 100-ton 777D and 60-ton 773E trucks in India should be completed by early 2012.

“The increased production in India and Decatur will better position the company to serve our mining customers in every region of the world, with a particular focus on the growing demand and customer base in the emerging markets of Asia and in Russia,” Curfman added.

Combined, the long-term shovel development program and added truck capacity represent investments of nearly $700 million in Caterpillar mining products through 2014.

Caterpillar is also updating the status of its new electric-drive mining trucks. The company currently has pilot units of its 345-ton 795F AC truck at customer sites for final evaluation, with commercial production set to begin in late 2010. Initial interest in the new Cat795F AC trucks has been strong, and the company has increased its planned build rate for 2011 by more than 40 percent to meet demand in all major mining markets throughout the world. In early 2012, the company also plans to produce pilot units of the 793F AC truck with a 240-ton payload. Both the 793F AC and 795F AC will complement Caterpillar’s full range of mechanical drive trucks.

“For generations, customers have relied on Caterpillar products, along with the servicesupport of our global dealer network, to give them the lowest owning and operating costs over the life of a machine,” said Caterpillar Chief Executive Officer-Elect Doug Oberhelman.

“In today’s globally competitive environment, our customers are counting on that level of reliability, durability and support more than ever. This investment of nearly $700 million demonstrates our commitment to Caterpillar mining customers around the world. It also is a great example of the job-creation benefits of global trade, as well over 60 percent of the large mining products made at our Illinois facilities are exported outside of the United States,” Oberhelman added.

AMBITIOUS plans to grow its business in Scotland have been announced by decommissioning, demolition and remediation specialist, KDC, which has opened its new Scottish headquarters in Grangemouth.

As a result of new contracts, the business has recruited four experts in land remediation and project management roles, to its expanding Scottish based team.

The new premises see the business triple its office space in Grangemouth to cater for the business’s on-going growth. Other KDC offices are located in Manchester and Reading.

Christopher Sandground is operations director of K-Land Solutions, the specialist remediation arm of KDC which will be based at the Grangemouth office. He said: “Our offices are strategically placed across the UK and this move demonstrates our growing presence in the area as a leading provider of decommissioning, demolition and remediation services.

“It signals our ongoing commitment to serving our Scottish based customers. We have built some long term relationships here in Scotland and believe expanding our base here will cement these further and bring new opportunities our way.”

The expansion follows KDC’s recent win of an oil storage tank and pipeline demolition contract with Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) valued at £1m. Other contract wins include projects with Scottish Power, EDF, Maryhill Locks Transformational Regeneration Area and work for East Ayrshire Council which included a major land remediation project at Stewarton.

KDC serves blue chip clients across a range of sectors including nuclear, energy and natural resources, pharmaceutical, process, utility and industrial markets throughout Scotland and the UK.

Service areas include decommissioning, hazard abatement, deplanting, demolition and land remediation.

CONSTRUCTION PRIORITIES AT INDUSTRY SUMMIT SET OUT BY MINISTERS


MORE than 500 delegates attended UBM’s Government Construction Summit 2012 with leading construction industry figures hailing it as the sector’s most important construction event of the year.

The event was organised by Building Magazine in conjunction with the Cabinet Office and the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills to encourage greater levels of dialogue between the construction sector and Government departments.

Attendees heard keynote speeches from Government Construction Advisor Paul Morrell and Minister for the Cabinet Office, the Rt. Hon. Francis Maude MP, as well as Mark Prisk MP, Minister for Business and Enterprise.

The inaugural one-day event was held at Park Plaza, Westminster, in London. ALLU processing bucket helps to transform contaminated land for a social housing development without the need to remove materials to landfill


A new ALLU processing bucket - supplied by Finlay Central to Portway Remediation - is helping to transform derelict, contaminated land for a social housing development, without the need to remove materials to landfill.

Using a proven methodology involving an ALLU bucket to fragment the contaminated soil, Portway Remediation – a division of Portway Plant Ltd – is carrying out the treatment by adding bacteria into the soil as it passes through the ALLU bucket.

The new ALLU bucket joins the plant fleet, which already includes another ALLU bucket fitted with cutting teeth, forming part of a new process using green waste and sub soils to produce topsoil.

This method further reduces the cost of importing topsoil for the redevelopment and recycles a waste stream.

Currently Portway Remediation are using both ALLU buckets on site in Leicester to treat 17,000m3 of hydrocarbon impacted material, to allow the redevelopment of the site by Westleigh Developments.

When the first phase of development is completed, 196 new dwellings will be created.

Ian Chambers, a Director of Portway Remediation, which is based in Redditch, said: “ALLU buckets are key to the remediation process for our application. The process involves using attachments to each bucket to spray the bacteria onto the soil as it is fragmented.

“Different levels of contamination and soil types require specific attention, and the ALLU buckets allow us to target and deliver the necessary treatments. We have been using ALLU buckets for eight years. We have tried different sizes and configurations and found the best for us is the SM3 –17 model. This is 1.7 metre wide and has three rotating shafts and we find our Volvo EC210CL excavator copes with very well with this type of machinery.”

Neil Bailey, sales engineer of Finlay Central – part of the Finlay Group of companies – said: “Before this bio-remediation process was developed, making good the land would have necessitated the removal of all the contaminated soil to landfill and refilling it with uncontaminated earth. The use of ALLU buckets on the site provides a sustainable way of converting brownfield sites, which have been subjected to contamination over the years into land ready for development.

“This process also reduces road usage by heavy lorries transporting materials in and out of the site, an important consideration in built-up residential areas.”

The Finlay Group is a supplier of ALLU products, which are developed for environmental care, improving recycling methods and the processing of different materials. Their main products are screener crushers, stabilisation systems and compacting plates.

Common Construction Job Interview Questions


Normally, construction job interview questions break down into a couple of categories.

One category includes questions which are intended to show the interviewer how you work, and what kind of working conditions you enjoy. Some examples of these kinds of job interview questions include: “How well do you work with a team?” “How do you deal with conflict in construction job sites?” “What are you looking for from a construction job?” “What are your long range career goals?” “Tell us about a difficult situation in your last job in a construction project and how you deal with it.” “What kind of hours/salary/benefits do you look for in a job?”

The interviewer will also ask job interview questions which are designed to open a window into your personality. These questions can be deal breakers, since they determine whether or not you will fit in with other employees. An interviewer might ask: “What would your former coworkers or bosses say about you?” “What’s your favorite book?” “What do you think are your strengths and weaknesses?” “How do you handle mistakes?”

Other questions are intended to directly probe your work experience. An interviewer will ask about previous relevant employment, along with your experiences in other workplaces. If you have been fired from a job, you will need to disclose this, but if you think about the answer, you can turn it to your advantage. Don’t say “I left construction company X because I was fired,” say “my supervisor decided that I was not a good fit with that company, but I think that certain traits would help me fit in really well with you,” and enumerate those traits.

Most employers also want to see how much you know about them. Read up on the companies you interview with so that you can answer questions about what the company does, people on the staff, and what you want to do with that company. You should also impress your interviewer with your desire for the position; if you are applying for other positions, try to minimize this fact, focusing on why working for the interviewer’s company is your goal.

Finally, one of the most common construction job interview questions is “Do you have any questions for me?” This question is not an invitation to haggle about salary, benefits, or working hours, but it is a chance to impress the interviewer with your interest in the position. You could make yourself memorable by asking a distinctive question, or you could pose a question about the direction of the company’s future or goals.

The Highways Agency announces National supplier recognition scheme for major roads


The Highways Agency recently confirmed the launch of the second year of its successful supplier recognition scheme, aimed at recognising efforts by suppliers who demonstrate leading performance in driving down costs and delivering even more efficient and effective customer services.

The annual recognition programme, first run in 2011, highlights the important contribution made by the Agency’s suppliers who play a vital role in operating, maintaining and improving the strategic road network in England efficiently and effectively. Entries for this year will be invited from 18 June 2012.

Suppliers including joint ventures, lower tiers, small and medium enterprises and those from across all aspects of Highways Agency business, are being invited to be recognised through a non-financial award in five key business areas for the Agency:

-Managing down cost/improving value.

-Supply chain management.

-Health and safety.

-Building & sustaining capability.

-Delivering sustainable value and solutions.

-Highways Agency Director of Procurement, David Poole said:

Largest order for equipment ever made by the Kimberly Group


According to the latest official GDP figures, the economy is deeper in recession than previously thought. But Yorkshire based The Kimberly Group – one of the UK’s leading providers of booms and scissor lifts for hire - is offering a ray of light during a time of economic darkness.

With a multi-million pounds order for 69 new Genie booms, cover working heights from 14m (45ft) to a massive 43m (141ft), the new equipment will swell the size of the Kimberly Group’s fleet of powered access machines to over 2,500.

It represents the largest order for equipment ever made by the Kimberly Group. The machines cover jobs from construction sites to maintenance services – any role which requires people to safely work at height.

Company Chairman Ray Ledger says that while investing in millions of pounds worth of new machinery may seem bold during the recession, this is ‘absolutely not the case’.

“This substantial investment in new equipment is based on a deep understanding of our market place.” says Ray, “This order is an integral part of our growth strategy”.

The new machines will be spread across the Kimberly Group’s network of depots; including Wigan, Durham, Pontefract, Stoke and Durham; to 1st Access Rentals based in Motherwell serving Scottish industry; and High Level Platforms based in Poole.

Success at the inaugural of Ecobuild China 2012


The inaugural Ecobuild China featuring more than 15,000 visitors and 127 exhibitors, which took place from 9 to 12 April 2012 in Shanghai has secured its position as the region’s meeting place for the sustainable built environment industry. Ecobuild was part of Expo Build, the premium building and construction event in China, which attracts more than 100,000 building professionals annually. The announcement of Ecobuild China’s achievement follows the recent success of Ecobuild in the UK which was attended by more than 57,000 industry professionals.

“Sustainability in the built environment is an issue that has picked up pace over recent years and shows absolutely no sign of slowing its momentum,” says James Blue, Portfolio Director, Ecobuild. “Ecobuild in the UK has seen phenomenal growth over recent years. This impressive construction designed by Ken Shuttleworth, founder of Make Architects, raised money for the China Children Teenage Fund (CCTF); specifically for the building of an Anji Bamboo Research & Training Centre which will create new bamboo building products and raise skills in sustainable construction among the local community.

Ecobuild’s Eco-design Gallery presented the latest products and project models from leading architecture companies, including ZED Factory, Aedas, BRE and Eurobuild.
