Miller Construction Commences Works On Three New Projects İn Scotland

Miller Construction’s Scottish region has commenced works on three projects in Scotland, totalling £65 million. Ground Breaking ceremonies have taken place to mark the start of works on site, at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen; Dreghorn Primary School, North Ayrshire and at Eurocentral, Lanarkshire.

Brian McQuade, Managing Director, Scotland, Miller Construction, said: “We are delighted to have been able to mark the commencement of works on three projects in almost as many days. The contracts at both, Robert Gordon University and Dreghorn Primary School reinforce our ability and expertise in the delivery of award-winning learning environments.

“In Lanarkshire, we beat off stiff competition to win the contract at Eurocentral on behalf of Muse Developments. Although, the commercial property market is experiencing some difficulties at present, this project highlights the confidence in Scotland, that developments of this kind are still sustainable.”

At Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Principal, Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski was invited by Brian McQuade to cut the first sod at the new £49 million campus. Once complete, the new development will see all of the university’s academic activities located at the Garthdee Campus, allowing staff and students from different disciplines to work more closely together.

Two local school children, who will be amongst the first senior pupils to attend the new £9 million Dreghorn Primary School, were joined by the Provost of North Ayrshire Council, Pat McPhee, Council officials and members of the Parent Council, to lift the first turf. Due for completion in the autumn of 2012, the new school will provide 13 classrooms, a dedicated nursery class and a changing pavilion for outdoor sports.

Commencement of works at Eurocentral were marked by Liam Hanlon, Regional Operations Director, Scotland, Miller Construction, Steve Turner, Regional Director, Scotland, Muse Developments and Paul Wedlock of Eurocentral partners, Scottish Enterprise. The new development will see 228,000 sq ft of new warehouses, with a contract value of £7.3 million, for Muse Developments and works are due to be completed in November 2011.

Chris Webster, Chief Executive, Miller Construction, said: “It has been a busy, yet exciting five days for our Scottish region. Education is one of our core markets and the projects at Robert Gordon University and Dreghorn Primary School enable us to utilise our strengths in delivering first class accommodation and learning environments. Muse Developments is a new client for Miller Construction and we look forward to building a strong relationship with them.
