Stride Treglown Finishes Work On National Composites Centre İn Bristol
An exciting project for the region as well as nationally, the new £11.1m National Composites Centre (NCC) is hosted by the University of Bristol BIS, with support from the Department of Business Innovation and Skill, the South West RDA and the European Regional Development Fund. Bringing together companies including Vestas, Airbus, GKN Aerospace and Rolls Royce with enterprising academics led by the University of Bristol, it was Stride Treglown’s task to design a building fit for this dynamic guest list.
The low energy centre building consists of 78,500m2 of workshop and office space that utilises a mixed-mode ventilation system and maximises the use of natural ventilation, high thermal mass, and daylight. The workshop benefits from daylight via north facing roof-lights and external views through a variety of slot windows to provide a good working environment. Spaces for ideas transfer are situated throughout the building to deliver innovation.
Stride Treglown has finished work on the highly-anticipated NCC in Bristol. As architects and interior designers, Stride Treglown with the consultant team of AECOM, Halcrow Yolles, Alder King Planning Consultants, Cyril Sweett Quantity Surveying and Project Management created an independent, open-access national centre that delivers world-class innovation in the design and rapid manufacture of composites and facilitates their wide-spread industrial exploitation.
Stride Treglown Director Gary Milliner said; “From the very first appointment through to planning and now completion, this development has been a highly efficient process. We are delighted to see our plans coming to fruition in creating a sustainable, fully functional and exciting building worthy of such a dynamic group.”
The NCC’s Executive Director Peter Chivers, also commented; “This is a fantastic building which will enable the NCC to blaze a trail in composites. Its innovative design provides exactly the right environment for the development of this cutting technology. The NCC will be at the forefront of the global composites industry and this building is a great starting point.”
